1975
In 1979 GKN Sankey won several trophies seen here including the now missing Division 3 Cup.
At the 2006 AGM Roy and Sue Allen present the new Neil Allen Trophy to Market Drayton captain Ray Thomas. This replaces the former trophy missing since 1999.

THE MYSTERY OF THE MISSING CUP
The only complete record of past winners of this title is engraved on the Division 3 Cup. This trophy is not only valuable in it's own right - it may cost some £250-00 to replace like for like - it is also an essential part of our Shropshire Chess heritage. Sadly it has not been seen since the late 1990's. It is probable that the cup is still in the possession of a member of a past winning team. Can you fill in any of the gaps in the following table of past winners? Perhaps by identifying the team members we can trace the movements of the trophy and discover it's present whereabouts. If you can help please email me - keithtabner@hotmail.com

John Westhead and I represented Telepost at the 1999 AGM. We looked at each other in embarrassment when we realised that we had forgotten to return the Div 3 cup due to be presented to Wellington. However Wellington were due to play Shrewsbury in the summer cup a few days later. One of our members dropped the cup off at Shrewsbury Chess club so that they could hand it on to Wellington at that summer cup match.
In those days Wellington used to play at the Sir John Bayliss Club. My guess is that the cup is still on display there. Or perhaps it was taken to be engraved and not collected.- John Casewell

Now we have some clues. Does anyone know the date of the 1999 AGM? The last sighting of the cup appears to be a match soon after that date between Shrewsbury and Wellington. If we can track down the match date, venue and scorecard it may jog someone's memor . Come on guys - check your old records - can you help? Who were the members of that Wellington team that won Div 3 in 1999? One of them must know the cup whereabouts.- Keith Tabner
